Group Description

Rajnat is an e-group for all those who are interested in Natural History of Rajasthan (India).

Rajasthan is a rich state in natural heritage. It has several national parks, sanctuaries and world heritage or Ramsar sites. Some of its characteristic habitats are Thar Desert, Sambhar salt Lake, Sariska, Ranthambore and Keoladeo National Park (Ghana). This state is not only famous for its tigers and godawan (Great Indian Bustard) but has more than 70 other mammals and more than 400 species of birds including rare Siberian cranes.

The area of interest of this group is very wide. It covers both plants(algae, fungi, bryophytes, ferns, gymnosperms, angiosperms)and animals(from Protozoa to Primates). Thus any one who is interested in flora and fauna, insects, butterflies, fishes, amphibians, snakes, tortoises or lizards other forms of wildlife, wildlife or nature photography, ichthyology, herpetology, mammology(study of mammals), ornithology or bird watching, wildlife paintings, anthropology, entomology, paleobotany or palaeozoology, palaeoecology, management of water and other natural resources, forestry, pollution, animal behaviour, ethnoforestry, sacred groves, ethnozoology & ethnobotany, medicinal plants, sustainable development, conservation, wildlife or ecotourism or ecology is welcome to join. Though the area of interest is primarily Rajasthan but observations from other parts of India are also welcome.
