      Subject: Lithuanian Jewish Vital Records Microfilms - Updated Locality Index

      ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
      Ten additional microfilms of Jewish vital records from Lithuania
      are now available at the LDS (Mormon) Family History Library.
      I'm pleased to announce an updated locality index to these new
      microfilms of Jewish births, marriages and deaths in Lithuania,
      now available on the JewishGen website.
      These records were microfilmed at the Lietuvos Valstybes Istorijos
      Archyvas (LVIA = Lithuanian State Historical Archives), in Vilnius,
      Lithuania, between June and October 2002. This updated locality
      index adds the records which were microfilmed during this period.
      (The previous index included records microfilmed Jan 2000 through
      May 2002).
      The updated Locality Index can be found at:
      < http://www.jewishgen.org/databases/FHLC/VilnaMicrofilmsIndex.htm >.
      The Locality Index is an alphabetical listing of towns, which allows
      you to find the microfilm ordering numbers for the specific place,
      date, and event type you need. The microfilms are available for
      borrowing at any local LDS Family History Center. The records on
      these microfilms are written in both Russian and Hebrew.
      These 10 new microfilms are the completion of LVIA Fond 1226
      (the Kovno gubernia rabbinate), series 1, files 2103-2177; and
      series 2, files 1-202; and a few miscellaneous files in LVIA
      Fond 1014 (Suwalk gubernia). They comprise additional vital
      records (mostly 1880s-1914) for 20 towns, primarily in Kovno
      gubernia:
      - Bobt (Babtai) - 1 item, 1887-1902
      - Chaikishok (Cekiske) - 2 items, 1913-1914
      - Datnuva (Dotnuva) - 19 items, 1896-1914
      - Keidan (Kedainiai) - 19 items, 1896-1914
      - Kelmen (Kelme) - 2 items, 1865/1869
      - Kovna (Kaunas) - 26 items, 1895-1914
      - Krok (Krakes) - 6 items, 1896-1914
      - Mariampole (Marijampole) - 1 item, 1893
      - Plungian (Plunge) - 4 items, 1859-1864
      - Ponevezh (Panevezys) - 3 items, 1905-1909
      - Posvol (Pasvalys) - 3 items, 1883-1914
      - Pumpian (Pumpenai) - 2 items, 1909-1913
      - Slobodka (Vilijampole) - 25 items, 1862-1914
      - Vendzhigola (Vandziogala) - 1 item, 1891-1914
      - Vilki (Vilkija) - 2 items, 1913-1914
      - Vilon (Veliuona) - 1 item, 1913-1914
      - Vladislavov (Kudirkos Naumiestis) - 2 items, 1833/1870
      - Yanova (Jonava) - 11 items, 1851-1864
      - Yosvain (Josvainiai) - 19 items, 1896-1914
      - Zhaimel (Zeimelis) - 1 item, date unknown.
      The ten new microfilms are #2,331,538-539; #2,331,971-972;
      #2,332,427-428; #2,332,781-782; and #2,343,142-143, which are
      available for borrowing at any local LDS Family History Center.
      The index was prepared by Kahlile Mehr of the Collection Development
      department of LDS Family History Library in Salt Lake City.
      Thanks to Kahlile for providing this information to JewishGen.
