      Carnegie, Leeds Metropolitan University are pleased to announce they are recruiting for the position of the Carnegie Director of Race Walking to establish and develop a nationally and internationally renowned race walking high performance centre.

      Leeds Metropolitan University has transformed its sporting profile in the past five years. The university has developed pioneering partnerships with sport including Leeds Carnegie Rugby Football Union Club, Leeds Carnegie Ladies Football Club, Leeds Rhinos and Yorkshire Carnegie, the one day team of Yorkshire County Cricket Club at the Headingley Carnegie stadium. The university was named as the UK Centre for Coaching Excellence in June 2008.

      The university now wishes to invest in athletics. Our pioneering relationships with world class athletes include the appointment of Brendan Foster as Chancellor of the university, the partnership with honorary graduate Haile Gebresellassie and the Ethiopian Athletic Federation and the Great Ethiopian Run, training camps for student athletes and university coaches at the Michael Johnson Performance Centre in the U.S.A and with Dame Kelly Holmes and her recent camps for outstanding athletes and coaches. Developing relationships with those who know how to win, who are genuinely world class, is at the heart on the university's philosophy. The university now wishes to attract top class candidates for the following two posts:

      The post holders will be required to place Carnegie at the forefront of athletics in the UK and further develop our international profile through coaching student athletes, worldwide and domestic recruitment of talented student athletes, liaison with the international and national governing bodies and innovative use of partnerships and resources. The university will build on its presence in Beijing 2008 and expect to have a major profile in London 2012.

      These positions are responsible for overseeing our existing four event coaches, the 4 event groups include Sprints, Endurance, Throws and Jumps.
