I live in Australia and am researching the Quin/Queen/Quinn families.
My father Peter Quinn was born at Tynemount, Ormiston, Scotland on 19 January 1895. I am trying to trace my Irish ancestors before their move across the sea to Scotland, and my Scottish Ancestors.
As background my Grandfather James Quin was born in Linlithgow, LinlithgowSh, Scotland in 1855. I think he was pre-marriage and hence his birth was shown as illegitimate. I have not been able to get his birth record. His mother was Mary Fotheringham (?) from Ireland born presumably about 1820. My Great Grandfather was another James Quin born about 1819 in Ireland.
So Great Grandfather James Quin, with young James Quin in tow, then married Ann Brady in Haddington Scotland on 15 February 1858. Ann Brady was born about 1823 in Ireland. Ann's father was a Thos Brady born about 1800 in Ireland and her mother Rose McDonald born in Ireland about 1800. I think Ann's parents were married in Ireland in 1822. I have some Births, Deaths and Marriage records and the Scotland Census returns to confirm most events in Scotland, but need "the luck of the Irish" as far as Ireland is concerned.
My near impossible task is to find out where my Irish and Scottish Ancestors came from, when they were born, etc:
James Quin, 1855, Linlithgow, Scotland
James Quin, about 1819, Ireland
Mary Fotheringham ?? Ireland
Ann Brady, about 1823, Ireland
Peter Quin, about 1791, Ireland my Great Great Grandfather
Catherine Gorman, about 1800, Ireland my Great Great Grandmother
Thos Brady, about 1800, Ireland
Rose McDonald, about 1800, Ireland
Granted this is a lot of information leading nowhere, but hopefully someone out there will stumble over some connection.
Appreciate any assistance and guidance.
