I believe by now all of you have heard about the tragic loss of our Head-Prefect Elect Stefan Lashley during the Easter Holiday (he passed away on Easter Monday after a relatively short illness.. the final diagnosis was cancer which was pretty advanced when it was finally diagnosed. There was an attempt to treat with it involving a trip to Washington D.C. (The group there may very well have heard and been involved). Stefan was easily one of the most brilliant students I have ever met in my whole career and while there have been many who could rival him intellectually few had his focus on academic achievement. He collected all the subject prizes regularly (possible exception Art and Music) and at the CSEC level, won the prize for the best mark in all of the nine subjects that he sat. He was also very involved in the resurgence of drama in the College in the last three years as well as Scouting and playing the trumpet in the Scout Band.
"Blue Blood" has been a concert put on by the College during the Easter period for the last three years. It was conceived as a fund-raiser for GYLC candidates.. (for those of you puzzled by the acronym use this URL <www.cylc.org/gylc>) We have found this program of great benefit to our students and a growing number have been able to participate.. last year we achieved what is probably going to be record of TWENTY-TWO young men (including Stefan).
All of the above is to invite as many of you as possible to
COME to CASCADIA Hotel, St. Ann's on FRIDAY MAY 5th 2006. The program starts at EIGHT p.m. It is a variety show involving song, dance, drama, poetry reading etc. The CONTRIBUTION is $100 TT and once costs have been covered (Cascadia has donated their premises), the organizers want to donate the proceeds to the Lashleys to offset the considerable expenses they incurred in the effort to manage their son's illness. Those of you abroad may contact me if you wish to make a personal donation. Those of you in formal organizations may wish to collaborate in establishing something permanent to honour his memory.
TICKETS are available from the College office (ring Ms Jennifer Martindale at 622 2544 which btw is the Foundation line and an altenative to the normal 622 1671 which is often busy, as a method of contacting the College). I will try to send a bulletin on Friday for the last-minute people to say if we have enough left for them to buy at the door...somehow I wouldn't bet on it!!
