Group Description

The mailing list and newsgroup are intended for discussion of and questions about all aspects of design and use of the Python programming language. The list and group are not moderated, i.e., everything you send or post is immediately forwarded to all people on the mailing list -- so be a little careful in what you write. Brevity is a virtue!

This mailing list is gatewayed in two ways to the newsgroup comp.lang.python: everything you send to the mailing list is automatically posted to the newsgroup, and everything posted to the newsgroup is also sent to the mailing list. If you can read that newsgroup, you are strongly suggested to unsubscribe from the mailing list, as administrating a large mailing list is a lot of work for us and we would prefer to keep this service available for those who can't receive news.

Send messages for the entire list (and newsgroup) to python-list@cwi.nl.

*** Send (un)subscription request and other messages for the list
*** administrator (that's me) to python-list-request@cwi.nl (that's
*** python-list-request, not python-request!). NEVER TO THE ENTIRE
*** LIST PLEASE! (Also don't send listserv commands, the request mail
*** is read by a human.)

The list has been archived from its conception. The archive is available by ftp (see below), but a much easier way is to use the archive search engine via WWW. The URL for this engine is:

http://www.python.org/locator/index.html

There is a WWW home page for Python. The URL is:

http://www.python.org/

in the USA and

http://www.cwi.nl/www.python.org/

in Europe. On this page you can find pointers to downloading instructions.

The latest Python release is always available by anonymous ftp from ftp.python.org, in directory /pub/python. This is mirrored on ftp.cwi.nl in /pub/python and gatekeeper.dec.com in /pub/plan/python.
