I was wondering if any one here would be willing to lend me a hand with an experiment I am doing. It does involve breaking a code, and it's a somewhat advanced code so you have to be pretty confident in your ability's before you take it on. I will have a starter code for you to do, and once you have cracked that, you can move on to the real code. the starter code only teaches you how to decode the first part of the main code. If and one is interested let me know, and I will post both codes on the forum, one at a time of course, for every one to try and solve.

Ok, I had a few people ask for it, so I will put it here, sorry it took so long, it just takes me a while. You only get one clue to start with, it uses an alpha numeric key, so a=1 b=2 and so forth. Have fun guys, try not to pull your hair out, and when you respond with an answer, please do it in private, but feel free to work in groups. If you do, please also respond with how many in your group, and how long it approximately took you to solve it.

...hold on, I am sitting here finishing it even though you don't know how long it's been because it does take a while...

it will be a while before I can put the final code up to be solved, I still have to do all of this by hand since I have not as of yet been able to make a vb program to do it, so I still have to look very close for errors. So that being said there might be errors in the above code, if there are, you will know when you crack it... if you crack it with only one hint...

Joseph, you don't need VB, such a code is easily constructed using any spreadsheet program, such as Excel.

                    9154055767795100118 1231241281371511 5817818619521423 4242247261264279 2933003183193393 6037237339340241 7436438463478499 5075085305355375 5557058158660061 3638641650666674 6796977107117207 3274575077077837 9980081983886187 6894898901910926 9279459659809949 9910001020103310 5810631076107710 861098

it will be a while before I can put the final code up to be solved, I still have to do all of this by hand since I have not as of yet been able to make a vb program to do it, so I still have to look very close for errors. So that being said there might be errors in the above code, if there are, you will know when you crack it... if you crack it with only one hint...

For the benefit of others trying to solve the code, there are several small errors in the ciphertext - the first error being the last two letters of the longest word, and the last being a missing 'L' near the end, and a couple of others in between.  Despite these, it's fairly easy to solve.

this code wouldn't mean as much to them as it would to you, because you have broken the first cipher already. and don't worry about not getting to it, I still have to finish it, so it might be this weekend before I can get it finished anyway.

                        [puzzles] Re: Code help

Ok, I had a few people ask for it, so I will put it here, sorry it took so long, it just takes me a while. You only get one clue to start with, it uses an alpha numeric key, so a=1 b=2 and so forth. Have fun guys, try not to pull your hair out, and when you respond with an answer, please do it in private, but feel free to work in groups.. If you do, please also respond with how many in your group, and how long it approximately took you to solve it.

...hold on, I am sitting here finishing it even though you don't know how long it's been because it does take a while...

I just bought a book some of you might find interesting. It doesn't seem like a puzzle book, but I found many interesting "puzzles" in it. I assume the author likes puzzles. The book is called Why Not Blame Drew. The website doesn't mention anything about puzzles directly but I keep finding little things in the book. For example there are letters spelled out in the spaces on the page. Its actually kinda cool. (You can see what I am talking about if you look at one of the random pages on Amazon http://www.amazon.com/Blame-Drew-your-problems-originate/dp/0984090207/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1262272563&sr=1-1 ). Also, the author's name is spelled out with the first letters of each line on the back cover. There are some other things I have found.

Incidentally I found the book because I have been looking at the authors blog www.yellowkayak.org that has similar hidden messages.
