      Qualifications: Reports to Transportation Shop Foreman; Be physically able to perform the required duties; Be capable of following oral and written instructions; Acquire the basic knowledge to perform a broad variety of general maintenance work and is commonly referred to as a semi-skilled position; Have the ability to work well with others; be a responsible, dependable, and trustworthy individual; Requires a class B-CDL with "P" and "S" endorsements. The fleet service technician shall maintain a high standard of safety and preventive maintenance within his department, working in a supervised environment servicing buses.

      Add fuel, check oil (engine), check transmission fluid, check power steering fluid, check fan belts, check brake fluid (when applicable), check batteries, check radiator water, check washer fluid / wiper blades.
      Services all buses that are leaving for extra-curricular trips during and after regular hours. Wash buses inside and outside.
      keep bus compound clean; empty trash drums in bus barn and bus compound; serve as substitute bus driver when necessary. Assist other shop staff with repairs when time permits. Perform other related duties as assigned. Work cooperatively with other employees. Capable of calculating fuel needs and ordering fuel. Able to pass a DOT physical. Physically able to lift 50 lbs.         PRIMARY PURPOSE:
        Manage the daily operations of the Transportation Department with respect to employee assignments, staff training, and student safety training. Act in the absence of the Director of Transportation.
        QUALIFICATIONS:
        High School diploma or GED; Valid Texas commercial driver's license (Class B or above) with passenger endorsement and school bus endorsement; Texas Department of Public Safety School Bus Driver Certification (Instructor preferred); Texas Association for Pupil Transportation Supervisor Certification, TASBO Certification, or equivalent professional certification (or ability to obtain); Acceptable driving record as defined by TxDPS.
        EXPERIENCE:
        Three years prior experience as a school bus driver; Two years prior experience in a supervisory or operations-related position in a school transportation department (preferred).

        **Salary range shown is for 2007-2008. The 2008-2009 salary schedule is currently pending approval.**

        MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
        Scheduling drivers and aides to bus routes and make re-assignments as needed to ensure full coverage of regular transportation needs; assign regular drivers and aides to extra route assignments as needed to ensure full coverage of regular transportation extra routes according to program needs. Training: Manage the transportation department staff training program, assign trainers to conduct training and re-training as needed; develop and manage the Sheldon ISD bus rider safety training program; Conduct and administer the TxDPS School Bus Driver Certification and Re-Certification program; Participate in and conduct monthly safety meetings. OTHER DUTIES: Communication, Student Management, Accident Investigation and Vehicle Operations, as assigned by Coordinator. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: First line supervisor to regular drivers and aides; conduct interviews; manage the transportation department in the absence of the Director of Transportation and Operations Manager.
