      Shop Manager / Mechanic

      Reports To: Director of Transportation

      Description: Oversee and provide a safe and reliable shop and vehicles for the safe transport of students by inspecting, analyzing and repairing C.I.S.D. Gasoline and Diesel powered vehicles and equipment.



      ? Pass Annual Physical & Drug Test

      ? Acquire Valid Class B Commercial Drivers License with P & S Endorsements

      ? Acquire Valid Texas School Bus Driver Certification

      ? Available to Work Late Hours As Needed

      ? Ability to Lift Heavy Equipment and Vehicle Parts

      ? Ability to Bend, Stoop, Stand, Kneel and Squat

      ? Drive Bus Routes as Needed

      ? Must Pass a Written ASE Test


      ? High School Diploma or GED

      ? Prefer ASE (Automobile Services Excellence) Certifications 1-8

      A-1 Engine Repair

      A-2 Automatic Transmission / Transaxle

      A-3 Manual Drive Train & Axles

      A-4 Suspension & Steering

      A-5 Brakes

      A-6 Electrical / Electronic System

      A-7 Heating & A/C

      A-8 Engine Performance


      ? Leadership Experience

      ? Prefer Six Years of Mechanical Experience in Vehicles

      Major Responsibilities:

      Management Responsibilities:

      ? Oversee and Allocate Daily Duties of Shop Personnel

      ? Take all Necessary Steps and Opportunities to Improve Skills of all Shop Personnel

      ? Ability to Comply and Oversee all Shop Rules and Safety Measures

      ? Ensure Compliance with all Applicable State and Federal Regulations

      ? Demonstrate Behavior that is Ethical, Fair and Becoming of a Role Model for all Staff

      ? Demonstrate Skills in Anticipating, Managing and Resolving Conflict

      ? Ability to Communicate Effectively Orally and in Writing

      ? Ability to Give and Follow Written and Verbal Instructions

      ? Comply, Understand and Organize Material Safety Data Sheets

      Mechanical Requirements:

      ? Able to Replace or Repair Engines, Transmissions and all Other Related Components as Necessary on Both Gasoline and Diesel Powered Vehicles

      ? Perform Repairs and Overhauls on Vehicle Systems such as Fuel, Cooling,

      Lubrication, Brakes, Steering / Suspension, Drive Line, Electrical, Hydraulic,

      Handicap Vehicle Equipment and all Other Job-Related Duties Assigned

      ? Read and Understand Shop Manuals, Electrical Schematics and other Technical

      Data as may be Necessary to Complete Vehicle Repairs

      ? Perform Preventative Maintenance, Inspections and Tire Repairs

      ? Perform Gasoline and Diesel Engine Tune-Ups and Diagnostics

      ? Perform Other Duties as Assigned by the Director of Transportation

      ? Must Provide Own Hand Tools to Perform Vehicle Maintenance

      ? Ability to Use all Standard Equipment Found in a Motor Vehicle Repair Shop


      ? Ability to Understand and Use all New Computer Diagnostic Equipment and

      Emission Standards

      ? Be Knowledgeable of Parts and Supplies

      ? Must Have Basic Knowledge of Computers and Software Programs Used in

      Troubleshooting and Repairs of Engine Control Systems and Testing of Sensors

      ? Maintain and Efficiently Use Tools, Materials and Safety Equipment Supplied to

      Perform Tasks

      ? Ability to Operate a School Bus

      ? Ability to Communicate, Organize and Oversee the Overall Maintenance and

      Repair of District Fleet

      ? Must be Cooperative and Show Initiative Towards Improving Skills

      ? Ability to Understand and Execute Verbal and Written Orders

      ? Possess Command of Inventory Control

      ? Able to Keep Accurate Records, Written and Computerized

      ? Possess Familiarity with Texas School Bus Inspection Procedures

      ? Must be Self-Motivated and Able to Work Independently

      ? Possess a Legible Handwriting

      Salary Range: $25.00 - $33.00 Hourly Rate

      Deadline: Until Position is Filled

      Length of Assignment: 6-Month Probation to Determine Permanent Status
