Re: PeopleSoft DBA Forum Peoplesoft DBA interview questions
- IMHO there is no single answer to the question you ask. In my
experience PS DBA duties vary from one place to the next.
If you want to ask only about DBA qualifications, try getting a copy of
Mike Ault's book published by Ramparts (Don Burleson's imprint).

- Hi Kelly,
We interviewed quite a few people for a sql Server Dba position for our
team. What worked for us best is to think and write down what you require of
him / her. What are the functions of the position (Competences and tasks).
This was most likely detailed in your advertisement. Then develope you
questions along the lines of that. You will find that during the interview
the interviewee will open up other lines of questioning for you.
I agree with last person that there are no right or wrong questions to ask.
Only good and bad ones. If the position is only for a PeopleSoft DBA then
you have to decide which has priority, the DBA side or the peoplesoft side
of the job. Does the candiate require minimal Peoplesoft experience and a
lot of DBA experience or vice versa or both. Is it a junior position or
senior position. Do you require the candidate to have certificates for
PeopleSoft and/or DBA (OCP or MSCDBA) etc. Will the candidate be doing a lot
of work in the Peoplesoft apps designer or working with a team of
One thing is sure that a DBA is notorious for being a solitary person who is
very protective of his domain and not very good a communicating. I disagree
and think that a DBA needs to be a good communicator, well organised and
flexible (at the same time as sticking to the procedures and standards laid
down by the organisation and by the other DBA's).
Success with your choice.
