      To All,

This error was reported to me for a Crystal Report. Fortunately it is in the QA
database and not production. I can replicate it at will. I have checked the status of
the Process Scheduler and am looking at the configuration file now. PT 8.42.12,
Crystal 9, Oracle 9, and Solaris, windows 2000 for crystal reports. Other than this
      error life is grand.

I have just tested for a particular Crystal. The
server for QA is the same server used by a working
environment. I have copied it from a working
environment but I am quite sure that several
          environments share the same repository.

first of all, you are not on certified platform.... only Crystal
Report 8.5 is certified for PeopleTools 8.42.... I know you will not

another thing, crystal report 9.0 is certified only for following
            platform:
            > PT 8.47
            > PT 8.46
            > PT 8.45

indeed to say, error you are getting probe to single thing... either
the required .dll or .exe file is missing ... i mean if you call a
function internally and required dll is missing you will get the
            similar kind of error....

            1-68 14.42.59 0.000 Exception Code=c0000005; access violation
(the memory at 0x00000298 could not be read)

you could also want to use microsoft userdump.exe tool to create a
dump file for indepth investigation of error:

            check it out:

If you need to tune SQRs then you need to know how much time you are spending on SQL and on not SQL processing.
If you are on Oracle, enable SQL*Trace with a trigger on PSPRCSRQST and process with TKPROF or another profiler.

As a first line of attack, if I have some suspect SQL in an SQR, if it's a big single SQL statement, I run it outside of SQR in TOAD or Rapid SQL. You can use those tools to do some quick execution plan checking and if you need to you you can tune it from there. When you're happy, you stick the SQL back into the SQR.

If there are program loops in the SQR code with small pieces of SQL being called lots of times then you need to put some show statements in the SQR code and to make it produce a decent log file with timings in it.

Then you can see a bit more easily where your problem is and start looking at the SQL in detail at the database level.

PeopleSoft it is not cost effective unless there is a
                          performance problem.

After the upgradation (upgrade?) an analysis of
performance would be the way I would procede. Of
course the first step would be to see if the users are
complaining if so then you have a performance problem
regardless of any data indicating that you do not.

So if the users are not complaining then you can
analyze to your heart's content. Then optimize if
                          necessary.

                            What’s an upgradation?

                            Anyway, I am intrigued.

How do you know SQL tuning is required?

How do you intend to give details when as it stands we don’t even know what database is involved?

                            Hi All,

My team members are doing Upgradation from 8.8 HRMS to 8.9 HRMS

After doing this do we need to do the SQL Tuning or not?

Can anybody please let me know the details,

If needed the SQL Tuning for SQR's then How to do that ?

                            Please give me some guidence.

                            Thanks & Regards,
