      When someone starts speaking badly about others.... Educate Those Involved

      Point out, in a kindly manner, that this is gossip and explain that it shouldn't be spoken about. This is the ideal response, as it educates the speaker and listeners to the fact that gossip is not right to do. However this action does not always work and can backfire.

      If not handled properly, educating those involved could embarrass the person speaking (which is not our goal; embarrassing someone is like killing them), and it could backfire by turning the evil speech on you. Educating those involved is a good method when you are in a one-on-one situation, where you can tactfully point out to the other person why negative speech and gossip are wrong.
