Republican Sen. Thomas in "serious condition"

      2 hours, 35 minutes ago

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Republican Sen. Craig Thomas
(news, bio, voting record) of Wyoming, who has been
battling leukemia for months, was hospitalized in
"serious condition" on Monday, his family said.

"At this difficult time, all we can do is give him as
much love and support as possible," Susan Thomas, the
74-year-old senator's wife, said in a statement issued
      by his office.

Thomas, in his third, six-year Senate term, was
diagnosed with leukemia last year. Doctors have been
administering a second round of chemotherapy at the
National Naval Medical Center, "but the senator's
blood cancer has proven resistant," according to the
      family statement.

Another U.S. senator, Democrat Tim Johnson (news, bio,
voting record) of South Dakota, has been recuperating
since undergoing emergency brain surgery last December.
