      Media Relations Specialist

      The Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine is seeking a Media
      Relations Specialist to develop media strategies in concert with program
      staff and senior leadership to obtain widespread positive coverage for
      PCRM and for its experts and campaigns, in regional, national, and
      international press.

      Primary responsibilities:

      * Uses discretion and judgment to decide how to obtain the most
      effective media coverage, including targeting the appropriate media
      outlets and reporters.
      * Develops and cultivates excellent relationships with press and
      spokespeople.
      * Responds to incoming media requests, helping reporters and
      producers find the information and spokespeople they need.
      * Develops and pitches story ideas to the press.
      * Writes press releases, backgrounds, sound bites, talking points,
      and pitch letters.
      * Distributes news releases and other PR materials via fax, e-mail,
      and other methods.
      * Consults with PCRM scientists, doctors, and nutritionists on how
      to best publicize their work.
      * Locates and media-trains appropriate PCRM spokespeople, including
      physicians, scientists, dietitians, and other experts.
      * Books and schedules interviews based on determining which
      spokespeople are best suited for each situation; provides background
      information for reporters.
      * Represents PCRM at press briefings and other events; helps
      coordinate those events.
      * Acts as PCRM’s spokesperson when appropriate.
      * Builds targeted media lists using Bacons Media Source, PCRM’s
      media database, and other systems.
      * Records and tracks contacts with media and spokespeople in PCRM
      filing systems.
      * Looks for new ways for PCRM to effectively communicate its
      messages.
      * Writes and facilitates production of other communications tools,
      including ads, public service announcements, and Web copy, as needed.

      Required skills, attributes, and accomplishments:

      * Requires at least three years professional experience in the field
      of media relations, preferably at a national level.
      * Advanced training in communications or related field - either
      college or professional workshops.
      * A keen news sense.
      * Sound judgment.
      * Outstanding writing, verbal, and organizational skills.
      * Enthusiasm for PCRM’s mission; knowledge of PCRM’s issues.
      * Professional appearance and manner.
      * Ability to deal effectively with reporters, the public,
      colleagues, and PCRM members.
      * Ability to work independently on several assignments
      simultaneously.
      * Willingness to perform a variety of tasks and jobs and to go the
      extra mile for PCRM.
      * Proficient computer skills.

      Terms of employment: Full-time in PCRM’s Washington, D.C., office.

      Compensation: Competitive nonprofit salary commensurate with experience,

      Direct Marketing Manager

      The Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM) Foundation is
      seeking a Direct Marketing Manager to provide key support of its direct
      marketing program. This program consists of direct mail and web-based
      and telemarketing fundraising campaigns for PCRM and The Cancer Project.

      Primary responsibilities:

      * Assisting in the management of the processes, workflow, and
      procedures for all direct marketing efforts.
      * Liaising with direct marketing consultants and vendors to meet the
      goals of the program.
      * Working closely with the Database Administrator, accounting, and
      with other development staff as needed.
      * Preparing payment requests and maintaining all records for direct
      marketing.

      Required skills, attributes, and accomplishments:

      * Candidates should have at least 5-7 years of experience in
      nonprofit direct marketing and a BA/BS.
      * Active memberships in DMA and AFP are desirable.
      * Must have excellent attention to detail, working knowledge of
      databases, and good communication skills.
      * Strategic planning, reporting, and researching skills required.
      * Ability to multitask and meet strict deadlines a must.
      * Knowledge of Convio preferred.
      * An interest in and commitment to the objectives of PCRM.
