      Postfix uses the inet_interfaces list (the list of IP address that
      Postfix receives mail on) to eliminate itself and equal-preference
      MX hosts.

      In addition Postfix has safety checks to prevent MTA melt-down due
      to routing loops, like the routing loop you had.
