      Interesting results but...most of these welding materials contain cadmium which is not recommanded for health. You have to work in a ventilated area.

            Mark,

            One of the key things about chemistry is that a Compound has totally
            different properties from the Elements it's made from.

            Table salt is nothing remotely like either Sodium or Chlorine.

            But Cadmium is a toxic metal however you look at it.

            All the same you are quite right that care and caution are all that's
            needed when using cadmium-bearing solders.
            Specifically:
            - good ventilation,
            - only occasional exposure,
            - careful washing, especially hands and face.
