W.Slaughter, British engineer, who;drafted the plan with experts of theNizamâ€™s government.Slaughter estimated that approxi-mately half the $125,000,000 willgo toward capital works, including,power plants,, railways and the newindustrial city. This expense wouldbe borne by the Nizamâ€™s govern-ment.Of the remainder, the government expects to invest half the amount inindustries with private investorsputting up the balance.Colonel Slaughter estimated thatat its peak the Godavari develop-ment will employ another half mil-lion persons in industry, and bringunder more intensive cultivationnearly 2,000,000 acres of land.A 40,000-kilowatt thermal powerplant to supply electricity in themodel city area is expected to arrive shortly., The first of the three damsplanned for the Godavari shouldprovide 150,000 kilowatts, Slaughtersaid. Two other dams will be chief-ly for irrigating a 2,000,000-acrearea.New steelworks are expected toproduce 500,000 tons of high gradesteel annually at the end of sevenyears. Smelting will be done elec-trically.The plan also calls -for 650 milesof new railway, a paper pulp mill,textile mills for cotton and rayon,and factories for heavy engineeringequipment, plastics, furnitureâ€”andeventually electric gadgets.
