Rhode Island politics is getting more interesting.
We have a Moderate party now in our state. Check out www.moderate-ri.org/press.htm that will likely bring you to their web site. It seems a moderate party would be difficult as many people depending on the issues can be conservative on one thing and liberal on another. Depending on the issue it would appear a party set up this way may encounter more diversity of thought and be hampered by lack of cohesion than the two main parties Republican and Democratic would have normally. Do any of you know of any Moderate parties in other states?
With numerous candidates for Governor representing various designations with former Senator Chafee running as an independent, the next Governor of R.I., will be elected clearly with less than 50% of the vote. Governor Carcieri is term limited.
As a Republican, and a Rhode Island Republican State Central Committee member, I am concerned about the impact of the Moderate party in elections. I do not see them winning a major office but possibly could win some legislative races or local races. In my town years ago Cool Moose were elected to local office ans I served with them. Also the question is who does the Moderate party hurt more? I think they will impact the major races but not winning them.
Elizabeth Dennigan, a State Rep., will challenge Jim Langevin in the 2ND Congressional District. She currently lives in the First Congressional District. Mark Zaccaria is running again as a Republican for the seat.
