What follow is a question, I suppose it's far to early to have a
definitive answer but I'd like to have others, more experienced than
I use the internet since 1996. For me it's some kind of laboratory, I
had several experiences, following the web site trends, the «
personal page », then the « portal » then the « hand made
it-was-not-yet-called-weblog » personalized site, then a weblog.
My current experience is around a weblog that is heavily
personalized. The site has my name, the url is my family name, there
is my photo on the front page.
What interests me is the link this creates with visitors. I have
regular readers who posts comments sometimes just to say « you're
fantastic ».. while they absolutely don't know me and perhaps
(probably) would find if they knew me that I'm a perfect asshole.
In fact they don't like « me » they like the image of someone that my
weblog projects. Under some aspects, I ended to the conclusion that a
heavily personalized weblog becomes some kind of virtual personality
of his own, independently of the guy/girl who is behind.
What I'm wondering is how people react to audio and how to maintain
this close link with readers (listeners by the fact).
When reading, people can react (using my weblog comment system)
without any effort, they read, and they react, more or less as if
they were talking to me and answering to what I say.
I strongly believe in audio not because podcasting (that I consider
just as a set of technical specs) but because the trend in MP3
Players (the iPod Mania) that will be enforced by next phones wave
(I'm pretty sure the pure audio players will died to be replaced by
multiusage phones). There have been numerous discussions tests and
theory about the web been or not the new age of press publishing, I
think the real new step is audio but I digress
What are your experience about the link with listeners, what are the
best ways to associate the independent MP3 file that is a
non-interactive support, with the website were people react ?
How do your listeners experience this new link ? by this I mean the
following. In my laboratory-weblog I noticed rather clearly that for
readers the fact to react is also a way to promote theirselves, their
knowledge and so on (it's the « forum effect » minus the fact that
speaki,g to someone clearly identified (me) the noise/signal ratio is
far better, there is no, or let's say less childish meaningless
Thanks for your advices, and experiences return
