- RH 7.3 -- ploticus 1.34
I haven't written any Ploticus scripts for a while and
am a bit rusty, so this problem may be all of my own
making :-) but so far I can't figure it out.

(ignore the cryptic comments in the pl file -- I was
reminding myself about vars in the code that generates
the pl file, not vars in the pl file itself).
I was trying to make a plot modelled on the hbar
example from the ploticus web pages. but instead
of including the data in the script I wanted to pull
it out of a data file, selecting rows by matching
a column value. showresults confirms that the
right rows were selected, yet the plot (see the gif
file) looks very strange and not at all as I expected.
I expected a stack of horizontal bars each labelled
with a value from col 4 (locfield) and extending R
to a length proportional to col 5 (lenfield), scaled
by xrange to the max value in lenfield; I expected
in other words a simple hbar plot showing, of male
respondents to a survey, which regions they hailed
from. what I got was, well -- take a look :-)
either I've found a bug or I've done something stupid.
can anyone tell me which, please?
PS you can grab plquest.tqr if you'd like to try the
same files on your own system.
