      I am pleased to share that a one-day seminar was organized by the Department of Library & Information Science, the Islamia University of Bahawalpur with the collaboration of Sir Sadiq Muhammad Khan Library on “Competencies for Information Professionals in Pakistan” on 24.12.2012 at 10.00 am for the LIS students, library professionals and faculty members. The seminar was organized at Computer Lab of the Library of the Islamia University of Bahawalpur.
       
      Dr. Rubina Bhatti, Chairperson DLIS, IUB and Mr. Aamir Rasool Librarian, Sir Sadiq Muhammad Khan Library welcomed the resource person Mr. Muhammad Umar Farooq, who has been working as Reference and Research Specialist at Information, Research and Communication (IRC), Embassy of the United States of America, Islamabad
       
      Mr. Muhammad Umar Farooq thoroughly explained the needed competencies for information professionals in the 21st century. He discussed the followings:
            Information Professionals: past, present and future
            Vision of Information Professionals
            “Habits Vs. Skills” of Information Professionals
            “Outputs Vs. Outcomes” by Information Professionals
            Professional Competencies for Information Professionals
            Personal Competencies for Information Professionals
            Leadership of IPs: an international perspective
            Leadership of IPs: a Pakistani perspective
            Roles in Competencies for Information Professionals
      After a comprehensive presentation, a detailed discussion, comments, feedback and question-answer session was held among students, library professionals and faculty members. The main focus was on creative solutions, team building, positive attitude, challenges and changes, sharing management, creating leaders and building partnerships among all the stakeholders.
       
      At the end, Dr. Rubian Bhatti and Mr.Aamir Rasool thanked the resource person and all the participants.
