I noticed there are events, a gaming schedule, and a movie room but nothing listed yet. Can someone give me a taste of what kind of events are held?

I know that they usually held a Casino Night (on a Friday night) I believe, but with the Radisson Hotel under renovation, I really don't know if they will hold a Casino Night this year.  This is one of the big things that generally gets a lot of money for the charities that they have to help raise money for.

Hope that this answered your question.

          Hey David,

I'm just starting to hash out some of the event stuff right now. With the new facility, I've had to start from stratch. In the weeks to come I'll start posting event information. However, let me give you a run down of various events I do have a handle on right now,

One of our most popular events is the CBLDF Quick Sketch. A panel of comics artists do sketches for an hour. As many as they can crank out. Raffle tickets are sold for $1 a piece and at the end of the hour we pull tickets to win the artwork. All the proceeds go to the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund. Anyone that's ever attend this event can tell you it's a ton of fun. (I think there are some pictures of the artwork in the Photos section on this site) This event takes place all 3 days of the show.

We usually have some "Game Show" type events during the show. Last year we had the Match Game, Win Lose or Draw, and a Trivia Contest. I can't give any particulars about these events right now, but there will surely be something similar this year.

There will be Casino Night after hours on Friday. To Raise $$$ for Make-A-Wish.

We also always have our charity auction on Saturday, after hours also with the proceeds going to Make-A-Wish. This is a huge auction featuring original art, signed items, comics and much much more.

Friday will have some paranormal panels taking place, An UFO panel, and probably a Ghost panel.

Sunday is the Our Costume Contest. Many members of this message board participate in that and it is great.

The Richard Crawdaddy (a online interview show with a twist) will be broadcasting from a panel room on Saturday.

Beyond that there are generally numerous comics related panels during the day. Terry Moore usually does one when he's in Pittsburgh. Donald Duck artist, Patrick Block will be doing a Duck Drawing Event for Kids (and adults) on Sunday and there are many more to be announced. The schedule is always packed full. I just don't have details on the entire schedule yet. But I am working on it and should be posting it soon.

We're currently trying to work out the logistics of our Movie Room and Gaming Events in our new location. When I have more information on those I'll let you know.

But rest assured there is always something going on.

Also while we're on the subject, I went and checked out the new facility last week and although we're all sad to see the Expomart go, The New Monroeville Convention Center looks to be able to fulfill all our needs and gives us room to grow, which we didn't have at the old location. The panel rooms are big, we'll have more room for our big events (Quick Sketch, Auction, Costume Contest etc.) and plenty of room for all our other various events.

I hope this answers some of your questions, and like I said some events will be appearing on the website soon.

          Thanks for your interest,

          Patrick A. Thomas
          Marketing Director - Pittsburgh Comicon

Is there something you've seen at another show that you'd like to see us do? Is there something you have a particular interest in? I can't promise you anything, but I am curious about what you guys would like to see and if it's feasable maybe we can looking into adding stuff to our schedule on your recommendation.

I've spoken with other podcasters & comic folks about this. We were
going to try for this year, but with the location changes and lack of
one central hotel we put it off till next - we want to do a roast of
various comic personalities. We've got a good rapport with a number of
them, and I think this would be a fun event (at least for the adults)
to do after the show. Next year we'll try and get it set up in a
central location and invite everyone, it should be a fun time.

Don, a sketch card panel is a great idea. We have a lot of sketch card artists on hand. I assume you'd be willing to participate if we added it.

Dugger, I'll try to set aside sometime for a board member meet and greet. (But, I'm relatively sure no one wants to see you oil wrestler, but I could be wrong.)
