The Health care system in the United States is the finest in the world, as befits the richest state in the history of the world. The trouble is that it is only available to the wealthy and those in high paying jobs and where unions have negotiated, as part of wage and salary packages, employer funded health care

There are few waiting lists for elective surgery, why?  Because many Americans cannot even get on the lists!

46 million Americans cannot afford health insurance
      and
      25 million Americans are underinsured
      and
Half of all U.S. bankruptcies are caused by medical bills

A recent T.V. documentary showed that all advanced industrialised countries had better health care, even though the provisions were varied. However all had the following virtues in common

Ø      The costs were a fraction of those in the U.S.
Ø      The entire population was covered
Ø      No one was denied health care
Ø      No one went bankrupt as a result of health care costs
Ø      No one lost their homes as a result of health care costs

      AND SUPERIOR RESULTS IN

      Ø     Higher Life expectancy rates.
Ø     Lower Child infant mortality rates

The amazing thing is that many Americans, living in the wealthiest nation on earth are prepared to pay exorbitant fees for an inferior health care system, it defies logic except to  the wealthy American health Insurance companies and pharmaceutical industries. .

I would strongly suggest that forum subscribers and others get of the fence and campaign for a health care system that is the most superior in the world instead of one that is only up to the standards of some third world countries.

For those living in countries with a Universal Health care systems,  take care of it, try and improve where necessary and resist the vested interests who consistantlly attack universal health care to replace it with a return to a private health care.

Research other schemes, this is too important to let slide
