Group Description

Pilocytic Astrocytoma
What did you think of when you first heard the words? For me, those words created more thoughts in one moment than I had ever collectively mastered in my life, and I wasn't even the one being diagnosed. This group was designed for the purpose of supporting and providing information to parents, adults and caregivers whose lives have been affected by this so called "friendly" tumor. Here you will find other parents whose child has been diagnosed and other adults who have been diagnosed. Formed in July 2006, this group is exclusive for this low grade astrocytoma in hopes of providing more specific information about this tumor for those in need.

As a member, please check out the database, links and calendar. The database has a nearly complete listing of our members, their tumor locations and treatments as well as other pertinent information. My goal for the links section is answer most of the questions that we may have about these tumors for topics ranging from stress management, coping skills, insurance needs to information for caregivers and direct links to patients' sites. A few of the things that you'll find in the calendar are dates of birthdays, MRI dates, surgeries and more. As we are a newer group, we are still working out the “kinks” and each day we are improving on the quality of information that we have available.

For those that desire to join, please send a request with as much information as you can in the space allowed (diagnosis, names, ages, treatments, etc). I know the space is limited, but this will help speed up the approval process.

My name is Julie, and I am the proud mother of Skyla who is now sixteen. When she was ten, doctors discovered a very large tumor in her left thalamus. It has been an adventure ever since. I welcome you to come and experience this wonderful group and all that we can offer.

Welcome to the Pilocytic Astrocytoma Group! We look forward to meeting you!
