Thanks everyone for the wonderful ideas and suggestions on places to meet other programmers.
Suggestions made thus far are:
- Meeting at a Pub
- Working with a startup company
- Renting a buss (or Scooby Van =)
- Creating another meetup group
- Looking into a space like "Hacker Dojo" or "Rocket Space"
- Or .. 222 Caspian Dr., Sunnyvale, just 1 block from the Borregas VTA Light Rail Station which connects to the Mtn View Caltrain Station as well as Yahoo, PayPal, eBay & downtown San Jose. (per Dave Nielsen)
As I'm in San Francisco, I'll look into "Rocket Space" and see how they are organized, ie .. Do people actually cross talk about their projects or are they all segregated off into their own little worlds.
If you have other ideas, please post them.
Concerning coffee shops, I have been looking around San Francisco as well. In either case, there appears to be a cover charge involved in sitting at any of these sites. Whether it's 5$ a day for coffee, or 650$ per month for a desk. Which makes me wonder, why pay 1k for an apartment, and then another 1k for a desk? And will I generate enough business to cover both, plus the other expenses .. ie .. food? =)
Other locations around San Francisco for Co-Working. I have yet to check them out, so posting to see what you think of them, if you have any experience with them.
FYI ... For those in San Francisco / Bay Area, interested in meeting, programming and chatting .. I have setup a meetup meeting through the Collaboration Alley meetup group I run. (Not looking to steal members from this group, just letting you know.)
Here's hoping that there's interest in meeting this way to work socially. =)
