              HI,
              We can use session for user authetication. When we start a session and assign a session variable for eg. session_start(); $_SESSION["real_name"] = "Hermawan Haryanto"; , php session id will be stored in the cookie. even if we restart the session if these is  a cookie is set it will again take session id from cookie. So we wont loose session data. I dont understand  what is ur problem. Anyway try this code

              a.php

              <?php
              session_start();
              $_SESSION["real_name"] = "Hermawan Haryanto";
              ?>
              <a href="b.php">Next page</a>

              browse a.php and search cookies in browser with name phpsessionid

              b.php
              <?php
              echo $_SESSION["real_name"];
              ?>

              I think now you got my point.

                      Dear Saji,

                      If you need to test your code you can use this ftp server. If its php
                      ini file configuration problem you can rectify it.

                      http://www.test.najsoftindia.com

                      FTP details:
                      host:www.najsoftindia.com
                      username:test@...

                      You can create tables
                      [Also all such facilities for limited use only]

                      You cant access the mysql server from outside the webserver.

                      This test subdomain is open for those who need emergency testing of
                      applications. Need to create your own folder via FTP to run the test
                      application.Also no bulk installations such as open source products.

                      The site is running in a Linux box.
                      For any help regarding this, feel free contact me.

                      Thanks,
