Group Description

We are the Queens NYC Chapter of PFLAG (Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays).

PFLAG is worldwide support group for the parents, family members and friends of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) people that helps them to understand and accept their LGBT family member. We provide opportunity for dialogue about sexual orientation, and act to create a society that is healthy and respectful of human diversity.

PFLAG-Queens meets on the 3rd Sunday of every month, at 2:00 PM at the Reform Temple of Forest Hills located at 71-11 112th Street (2 blocks north of Queens Boulevard) Forest Hills, New York 11375

PFLAG's mission is to promote the health and well-being of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender persons, their families and friends through: support, to cope with an adverse society; education, to enlighten an ill-informed public; and advocacy, to end discrimination and to secure equal civil rights.

PFLAG serves gay men, lesbian women, bisexuals, transgendered persons and their parents, families and friends. Anyone who wants to help end discrimination based on sexual orientation. We welcome "straight, but not narrow" members openly!.

The chapter also hosts an annual Awards Luncheon Celebration where we salute people who have made a positive difference in the lives of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender/Intersex People, their families, their friends and their community. During the luncheon the following awards are presented:

* the Morty Manford Award (http://pflag-queens.org/morty.html)
* the Carmel Tavadia Memorial Award (http://pflag-queens.org/carmel.html)
* the Brenda Howard Memorial Award (http://pflag-queens.org/brendahoward.html)
