If anyone has information about high yielding, short-growing varieties, it would be useful to know. Here in the Philippines, Ricinus communis has been grown for over 4,000 years but the local varieties are said to be low yielding. Fascinating plants anyway :)

Named in Colombia Higuerilla or Higuereta, Ricinus is a wild plant here. It grows very good in any soil class, resistant to diseases and insects. Like oil feedstock in Colombia was done attempts with success in the economical analyses. Today CORPOICA , the research goverment institute, realize tests for know over high yielding varieties

Ricinus communis can be grown productively as an annual in temperate climates, or as a perennial if there are negligible frosts. Seeds have a high oil content. The oil is soluble in Alcohol, so biodiesel could be cheap and easy to make. Harvesting the seed is a major problem - some varieties grow very tall, seeds do not mature all at the same time, so mechanical harvesting is not yet simple:

Besides biodiesel, Ricinus communis has a significant range of other uses - from very low-tech (like lamp-oil, and roofing material) to very high (fuel additive to prevent space rocket fuel from freezing).

      All the best,
