      *Course Title: How to make biodiesel*

      Date: 30 Jul - 1 Aug

      Location: Redfield Community, Buckinghamshire
      Cost: £150 waged, £100 unwaged. Discounts for 'Friends of LILI'. All
      meals and accommodation included

      Produce your own cheap, carbon-neutral diesel - no need for alterations
      to your engine. This course covers everything from a small home-made
      plant, to commercial-scale biodiesel production.



      · What is biodiesel?

      · The environmental benefits of biodiesel

      · Theory: two ways of making biodiesel, using two different
      reactions; biodiesel v. pure vegetable oil

      · Ingredients: supply of used cooking oil and other reagents

      · Vehicle considerations: the functioning of a diesel engine;
      fuel quality; engine requirements

      · Health and Safety: handling of flammable liquids; minimising
      the risk of personal injury

      · Environment Agency: the Integrated Pollution Prevention and
      Control document; charging structures; criteria for 'low-impact plant'

      · Customs & Excise, and VAT law

      · Practical sessions: plant design and construction using
      readily-available materials; making biodiesel

      This workshop is intended to provide a theoretical and practical insight
      into beekeeping, with the opportunity to handle bees.

      * Bees and plants
      * The life's work of the bee
      * The beehive
      * Swarms and swarming
      * Pests and diseases
      * Seasonal management
      * Honey
      * Getting started
      * Manipulation, making a frame, Queen marking, extraction of honey.
      * Please bring wellies, rubber gloves, and if possible a boiler suit
      (a paper disposable boiler suit would be OK). A small number of
      bee suits will be available.

      *Course title: Rammed Earth Building*

      Date:20-22 August

      Location: Redfield Community, Buckinghamshire

      Build you own low impact dwelling from cheap, sustainable, easily
      available materials.

      High or low tech solutions.

      · Different construction methods

      · Design detailing from damp proof course to roof plate

      · Tools; what to use; how to use them; maintenance and safe handling
