Columbia, MD Bans Leghold Traps, Fight Goes Statewide
- On Thursday, February 13th the city council of
Columbia, MD voted unanimously to ban leghold traps.
This followed an incident where a fox was found in
trap at a golf course. The fox was taken to a
wildlife rehabber, and while she lost several toes,
she is going to be released back to the wild in a week
Now the fight goes to the Maryland state legislature.
Bills to ban leghold traps have been introduced in
both the Maryland Senate and the House of Delegates in
the form of S.B. 272 and H.B. 365 respectively.
If you live in Maryland please contact your state
legislators immediately and ask them to support the
anti leghold trap bill in their chamber (H.B. 365 for
your delegates and S.B. 272 for your state senator).
