  • Walt, Perfectly stated - both in regard to calibration, and the fun of watching wobbly carriers. What a cool feature to have in our radio shacks. Unheard of capability, just what,15 years ago? (And Wolf's SpecLab is a remarkable program in its own right.) Scott Sent via the Samsung Galaxy Note® II, an AT&T 4G LTE smartphone -------- Original message -------- From: "Volodya S...

  • Dear All, The slurred waterfall on V5 would be nice to resolve. I sure appreciate its lower CPU load and much faster speed painting the waterfall, as I had hoped to use it for carrier offsets, but like Mauno I find the traces too indistinct. Folks interested in carrier offsets will have to set up V4.x and walk away for an hour so. Not complaining; it's still an incredibly cool...

  • Barry, While V5 does function under Windows 7, what I believe Mauno is referring to is the significant reduction of detail in the waterfall, when compared to V4.x. It paints the waterfall much faster, but with less detail. I can see where that would make it unusable for carrier offset study. It's faster (nice), but not enough detail for that use. • Jurgen, What are the shortcomings of the Perseus SAM? I marvel at its efficacy when receiving European and African long-wave broadcasters here in Michigan, USA. Your comment makes me wonder what I missing. Thank you. • Which makes me repeat my earlier question: Hardware based noise cancelling introduce loss and we've established they are ineffective against multiple sources. Wouldn't dual SDR's in a noise canceling configuration perhaps be a lossless system? Does this system exist commercially, now? • I have used both the ANC-4 and the MFJ noise cancelers. They work reasonably well though require frequent adjustment. And they introduce loss. • Barry and others, I greatly enjoy the Perseus native software. I have looked at Jaguar and with no intent to denigrate it I do not find it appealing. Then again I do not search BCB recordings for TOH catches. Am I overlooking a gem here? • Dear all, Thanks to everyones help i have been quite successful storing overnight recordings on an external hard drive. On advice from K8ND, I am using a large drive, so it appears storage won't be a problem for quite some time. Stuttering has not been a problem. I attribute that to a new laptop with an i7 processor, an SSD, and 16 gigabytes of RAM. (For the record, that much RAM...

  • This is for the guys who use an USB external hard drive for capturing Perseus recordings: will any run of the mill drives work or is there some spec I should look for? I want to avoid stuttering. Any tips appreciated. Scott

  • Since I installed V5 I have been getting a message for both V4.1 and 5 upon startup that says "Please allow administrator to register the MTTP protocol". Whether I hit OK or cancel it pops up with every startup. Any one else seen this? Scott
