      I need to find every page that has this in the <title> of my entire

      necessary for my index server.

        Check out the CPAN module HTML::TokePArser. It allows you to pull out text
        between tags like you are describing and perform actions on the tokens
        themselves or the text contained between start and end tags.

            hi,

            I attempted sending this message yesterday but it appears that
            the message didn't go through, so I'll try again and if it did go
            through please forgive me? :)

            anyway I just joined the group yesterday, so basically just wanted
            to say hi, but also wanted to ask something while I'm writing.

            has anyone heard of that active perl program for windows? I just
            downloaded it the other day....and it's useful for actually being
            able to use perl on windows but I'm not sure where the sendmail
            function is, or if there is one. What I mean is usually in perl it
            is something like: /usr/lib/sendmail, or something like that. but
            with this I've looked through the folders and everything and can't
            find the thing...I'm wondering if it is even possible with this
            program or not...anyone familiar with that? thanks

              sendmail is not a perl function, it is a Unix application and it not
              available on Windows. There are substitutes but their names escape me
              right now.

              The FAQ (which is in the ActiveState Perl docs you probably
              downloaded) mentions sendmail and alternatives:
              http://www.perldoc.com/perl5.8.0/pod/perlfaq9.html#How-do-I-send-mail-

              Others on this board have much more experience and I'm sure will
              shortly respond with more information and ideas.

                      SMTP = Simple Mail Transport Protocol.
                      This is the low level method apps use to send email (that is my
                      understanding).
                      It connects to a server and give it the email info.
                      Using sendmail hides this complexity and provides other conveniences
                      too (e.g. keeps trying even if the destination server is unavailable).

                      There are some programs, 'blat' I think one is called, that simulate
                      sendmail, but I don't know anything about them.

                        lol. so I got one, though, and installed it after many attempts. :) and
                        now it works! and lol I even found out that I had an smtp, just by some
                        guest work...

                        I"ve never worked much with the command prompt...but it's a pretty neat
                        thing, I had to set up the configuration for cpan, and did that through
                        command prompt, pretty neat. :)

                              If you are using Windows:
                              http://www.activestate.com/Products/ActivePerl/
                              and click the red 'Download' in the top left of the page.

                              On Unix you can get the source (even though it is probably already on
                              your system) at:
                              http://www.perl.com/pub/a/language/info/software.html

                              Then read the documentation and consider buying a book.

                                : I just downloaded it the other day....and it's
                                : useful for actually being able to use perl on
                                : windows but I'm not sure where the sendmail
                                : function is, or if there is one.

                                sendmail is not a function of perl. It is an
                                executable found on most unix systems. To use it
                                on windows you would have to install it. Try
                                doing a search on google for "sendmail on windows".

                                It sounds like you've used perl before. You
                                might want to check out the documentation that
                                comes with activeperl. Mine is located at:
                                file:///C:/Perl/html/index.html. This is a great
                                source of pod info turned into html files and I
                                keep a bookmark to it.

                                      OK, here's my theory: there's a class in India (guessing from the names I've
                                      seen here lately) on Perl. The instructor has mentioned this mailing list as
                                      a resource. Now several of his/her students are asking basic questions
                                      related to assignments they are getting.

                                      Here's the deal: I don't think I'm the only one getting tired of it. This is
                                      the third time in about a week this question has been asked. This time it's
                                      a little different, but it's all ("how to call perl script from...?").
                                      Please, use this mailing list for stuff you can't figure out, not just stuff
                                      you're too lazy to hunt down on your own.

                                      Randal, care to add your standard rant about not going to the instructor
                                      first (Rant # 3A, I belive). 8-)

                                            Firstly, please use good subject lines. 'hello' is not a good one.

                                            The module Utils.pm, is it yours?

                                            The problem is that the variable, $config_file, is not set to a value.

                                            Using code:
                                            --
                                            #!/usr/bin/perl -w
                                            use strict;
                                            my $config_file;
                                            open( FH, "$config_file" ) or die "$! ";
                                            <FH>;
                                            close( FH );
                                            --
                                            I get:
                                            Use of uninitialized value in string at util.pl line 4.
                                            No such file or directory at util.pl line 4.

                                            If I remove the quotes I get:
                                            Use of uninitialized value in open at util.pl line 4.
                                            No such file or directory at util.pl line 4.

                                            If I change line 3 to:
                                            my $config_file = 'not_exist.txt';
                                            I get:
                                            No such file or directory at util.pl line 4.

                                            So, you can see that $config_file does not have a value when open() is
                                            called.
                                            Are you using the module correctly, supplying the right arguments to
                                            the methods?

                                            Show us more code.

                                              $config_file is not set to any value(eg. filepath/filename).

                                                      A few questions:

                                                      1. What is your computer running, which operating system and which operating
                                                      system version?

                                                      2. Which Perl distribution did you try to install so far, and which problems
                                                      have you run into? What didn't work?

                                                      Without answers to those, we won't be able to help you.
