    I ve heard good things about both Perl and PHP. Are both of them open source? Also which is faster - I ve heard that Perl can really slow down webserver

      I've heard good things about both Perl and PHP. Are both of them
      open source? Also which is faster - I've heard that Perl can really
      slow down webserver speed beacause it runs a program for each
      individual user? Which is more versatile?

        It much depends on what you want to do, maybe, php is a good substitution
        for perl-cgi.
        But speed is not an argument, with apache and mod_perl you're fast enough
        nowadays.

        Try to write a client, mail or news or web with php, try to write a server,
        try to write a real program with php...

        I don't know for what i need php, because i do no webdesign.
