      The attendees at January's ScienceOnline conference walked away with some great SWAG. One of the best freebies: Holly Tucker`s new book Blood Work, due to be released next week. I recently had the great pleasure of reading the book, which makes use of gripping narrative (hello, murder mystery!) to trace the history of blood transfusions in 17th century Europe. ....

        Evidently Anthes found the thorniest moral issue struggled with by the 17th century  transfusers both in England and in France -- the recipient's mental competence or character -- the Bedlam-inmate, feeble-minded issue -- took her too far away from her  Frankenfoods target for her to deal with.
