"Haines, Joseph (d. 1701), actor and writer, was the child `of mean
Parents' and also the son of `Sir Thomas Hayns', according to the
sometimes fanciful Life of the Late Famous Comedian, Jo. Hayns
(Highfill, Burnim & Langhans, BDA). He was probably educated at St
Martin-in-the-Fields School, London, and may have attended Queen's
College, Oxford, as the Life suggests. About 1667 Haines joined John
Coysh's strolling players in Cambridge and probably moved on to the
Hatton Garden Nursery, which trained performers for both London
      theatres. "
