Oh boy.. I really hope you have some idea of what's behind the green door you just opened Ray. ..Did you say something about a simple "how to"? First, let me tell you that absolutely nothing is simple in this group...nothing. It gets a tiny bit easier to understand after you read the first 1,000 or so messages, but I doubt that it will ever really get very straight forward around here.
Now that you have been properly warned - welcome to our crazy group Ray!

        Hello All,
New to the group as well, pleased and excited with all the info and
fun. Been turning pens for two years now and having a ball. What
started as hobby on top of other woodworking interests has become
great source of extra income (beer money).

I started with class put on by the local Woodcraft store. Full hands-
on demo where you make a pen start to finish. Of course after the
class the owner was more than happy to sell me a Jet mini lathe and
all the kits I could turn. There are also several excellent books on
the subject. Still nothing beats the hands-on.

By the way, I am spoiled living in Cleveland. Have 2 Woodcrafts,
Rockler, and Berea Hardwoods within 20 min drive.

Well I have looked through the mounds of sand, under a cactus or two, and in the shade of a few casinos and still have not found a retail outlet that is like Rockler, Woodcraft, or Berea Hardwoods. When you consider how fast this cow town is growing I am sure that one of the major Franchise stores will be here before long. So until then we will have to be satisfied with Lowes and Home Depot. Just count your lucky stars as you live on the edge of heaven. Turning Wood in Las Vegas, Brian

So, I suppose you are going to rub it in....lol. Is one of them a company
store? I had heard Woodcraft was closing all their company stores and going
with the franchise store concept totally. Several of the bigger stores
around the eastern half of the country have closed already.

I expect to pass through this world but once.
Any good I can do, or any kindness that I can show,
let me do it now, for I shall not pass this way again.
