Thanks for the compliments. Never sure about radically new designs, and as
usual some folks like it and some don't. Isn't it good that we don't all
like the same things.
Take a look at a picture I've already posted on egroups,
and you'll see how it's done. The top blank is longer than its brass tube,
the bottom blank is shorter. The black ring is fiberboard used in making
knife handles, in the same way that guitar pickguard isused. Since a pen
mill can't be used on the end of the bottom blank that has the tube
sticking out, I put it on a mandrel and square it up with a parting tool.
And obviously I don't use a center bushing when turning the pen. I put
together the two blanks, on the mandrel, and turn it all at once. An easier
way to do it is to have just one piece of wood. Then the point is
extended/retracted by twising the gold tip of the pen. Not very convenient
to use, but easier to make.
