Press Release: New Poll Shows Halvorson Quickly Closing Gap
Art Halvorson FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
BEDFORD, PA; January 6, 2014 - Congressional candidate Art Halvorson released poll data today, that show a rapidly tightening primary race with entrenched incumbent Bill Shuster in Pennsylvania’s 9th District.
The poll shows Halvorson cutting Shuster’s lead in half since October and Shuster dropping below 50% for the first time in the race.
The poll, conducted by Gravis Marketing, found 49.1% of registered Republicans supporting Shuster, 22.5% supporting Halvorson, and 28.4% unsure.
An October poll by Harper Polling showed Shuster with a 51-point lead over Halvorson. Monday’s poll reveals a current gap of just 26 points.
The poll reveals plenty of opportunity for Halvorson in terms of both trends and high levels of open-minded voters. The data also suggest that Halvorson’s campaign effort has been effective in both building support and eroding Shuster’s advantages as an incumbent.
"For years, Mr. Shuster has supported big government growth and increased spending. As we show voters his actual voting record, they quickly reject his brand of tax, borrow and spend politics,” said Halvorson. “This poll shows his vulnerability to his own big-government record. The people of the 9th District want a proven, effective and authentically conservative leader to represent them in Washington”
The telephone poll, conducted by Gravis Marketing, surveyed 1700 registered Republicans on Dec. 17- Dec. 19th and has a margin of error of 2.4%.
