Ahh. What you are experiencing is related to the old DOS file names or 8.3 file names. The best way to fix this is to download WINZIP or something comparable.

      Ahh.

What you are experiencing is related to the old DOS file names or 8.3 file
names. The best way to fix this is to download WINZIP or something
comparable. It is much better and handles long file names easier.

If you need anything more, let me know, I'll be around here for a while.

      Subject: [pcgen] Windows/pkunzip renaming files

I use pkunzip to inflate .zip files. When I installed the first
version of PCGen, it didn't work and I didn't know why. Third or
fourth attempt at installation, I had windows explorer open behind
the DOS prompt and watched the new files appear as they inflated. I
then noticed: the names of the files in windows explorer were not the
same as the names in DOS. The first letter of each file was
capitalized, and file names were cut short. PCGen didn't recognize
the .lst files under the new names. So I renamed the files back to
their original names and the program worked fine.

Today I downloaded the PCGen 1.4 and its attendant .lst files. Now I
have a real problem when I unzip lst.zip. The first few files
inflate, including dmgclass.lst. Then it says: "Inflating:
      dmgclassskill.lst" then: "Warning! dmgclassskill.lst already
      exists. Overwrite? y/n/a/r"

You see, my computer thinks that dmgclass.lst, dmgclassskill.lst, and
dmgclassspell.lst are the same file. This renaming business is
driving me crazy. Anyone know how to avoid it?
