- At least in my case, I had already tried this with the 5.16.4 release.
I have 4GB RAM and run Linux with a lightweight desktop - I had plenty memory to spare. But the speed gain was virtually non-existent for me. Nothing like the speed boost going to 5.17.x provided.
I have to do this trick for 5.17.x though, as after a load or two of the sources I start getting Java HEAP Out Of Memory errors with the defaults. Bumping up to 1G got rid of that.
