      Hello everyone,

I'm running PCGen 5.1.6.1 with Java 1.6.0 Build 15. Every so often when I click on a tab or try to add an equipment item (doesn't seem to matter what I do). The CPU utilization jumps up to 50% and the entire program stopped responding for at least a minute. Then the CPU utilization drops to 0 and I can then use the program.

I'm running on a laptop with 2GB of ram and its the only program running. I modified the pcgen.bat file to allocate 512MB minimum and 1024MB max thinking it was a memory issue but I get the same results.

Is there something I can run to determine what the program is working on causing it to freeze up like that?

Let me know if you need additional information.

Yes - but it depends on what platform you are on.

If you are in Windows, please make sure to launch PCGen so that a console is visible (use the pcgen.bat file), then make sure to increase the screen buffer size to something large (like 9999) -[this is in the properrties item of Command prompt in XP)

Once PCGen starts to pause, go into the command prompt window and press Control-Break. Do this a few times separated by 10 seconds or so, and it will help further establish what is happening.

On Linux the equivalent is Control-/ (You can also sent a quit signal by doing kill -3 <pid>

You can send me the stack traces it produces by email and I will look into it.

Thanks for the report - we are trying to clean up stuff like this.

        TP.

Thanks for the quick reply. If I did your steps correctly the trace file looks like the following: Let me know if you need something different.

Either way, I have a target to look at, so thanks for the info.

Probably one to two minutes a part between capture. I can space it out further if you need me to. Let me know.

The trace is showing code that really shouldn't be hit, indicating something isn't working right.

Are you using data from PCGen, or custom data? Do you define any SOURCE*: tokens in that data if it's custom data?

When you view the Abilities (Feat) tab, and sort by Source, are there any Abilities that are not sorted under the list of sources?

                      TP.
