The problem has now been fixed.
Under the massive slowdown of detailed profiling, I had it taking over 567 seconds to save. After the fixes to skills churning I have that down to 1.4 seconds (still using detailed profiling) :) I'd expect it to be back to near instantaneous in normal conditions.
