From Mike Reiss, in the Herald...

      ***************************************

In a minor surprise, the Patriots announced the release of nose
tackle Ethan Kelley on Monday. The move coincided with receiver Tim
Dwight coming off the preseason physically unable to perform list.

The 6-foot-2, 310-pound Kelley was projected as a backup nose
      tackle behind Vince Wilfork.

When the team released nose tackle Keith Traylor in the
offseason, Kelley was provided a golden opportunity. Yet he opened
training camp on the non-football injury list, and never made it on
      the field.

A seventh-round draft choice in 2003 out of Baylor, Kelley spent
the 2003 season on the practice squad. Last year, he was on the 53-
man active roster for the entire regular season and playoffs. He
played in one game, the regular-season finale against the 49ers.

Kelley's release opens an opportunity for Dan Klecko, who has
been working as a backup nose tackle. The 5-foot-11, 275-pound Klecko
worked at linebacker last year, but he's been primarily on the line
      in 2005.

Joe's little boy better make the team now.
