"New Orleans Saints - Signed running back Lamar Smith."
Couldn't we have used this big guy?
I acknowledge that, at this point, I'm beyond any serious questioning of personnel moves that are made - or not made - by our team. Their record earns them immunity from screaming protests by those of us who like to think we know the game well enough to do so. Whether it's passing on Lamar Smith, signing JJ Stokes instead of Gadsden, drafting a damn unknown QB in R6 with a former Pro Bowler starting, and a former Heisman candidate on the bench, or drafting a big, lanky DL over a badly needed "big" superstar WR; they've made moves that some of us, at various times, have called dumb, or worse. All they've done so far is win one SB, and set a team record for W/L record after 11 games, virtually locking up the Division Championship in November.
So, no yelling and screaming. But, while I assume that they certainly know more than I do, and must have their reasons for passing on Smith ... I still have to wonder. ;-)
