KFFL Hotwire reported that DE Kevin Watson Occidental
(CA) signed with the Patriots. Here is the scoop on
Watson from John Murphy's Draft 2003.com

Kevin Watson Defensive End Senior, Occidental (CA)
      6-4, 280 lbs., 4.80 (40-yd. dash) Occidental (CA)
senior defensive end Kevin Watson was a Division III
      second-team All-American as a junior and the 2001
SCIAC Defensive Player of the Year. He will shortly be
named the Tigers' Defensive MVP for the fourth
consecutive year after recording 46.5 tackles,
including nine tackles of loss and 4.5 sacks this
season. He earned the league's Defensive Player of the
Year award with a superb junior campaign, which
included 63 tackles, 12 tackles for loss, 13 sacks,
one blocked kick, one safety and one rushing
touchdown. The Santa Ana, California native is a solid
all-around athlete, besides his accomplishments on the
football field he was the SCIAC Track & Field leader
in the discus throw (158-10) and also finished in the
Top-10 in the hammer throw and shot put last
spring.Watson was originally recruited by several WAC
and Mountain West teams, including Colorado State, San
Jose State, Fresno State and Boise State. "(I) really
thought I was going to Colorado State", explained
Watson, "But I just committed too late... and they did
not have a scholarship left for me." The high school
quarterback, who also played linebacker, found
Occidental, which is located in Los Angeles,
California, to be a good fit for his academic and
      football aspirations.Occidental has produced several
impressive football prospects in its history,
including Jack Kemp, Jim Mora and Vance Mueller, and
has been playing football since 1894. Watson has
played defensive end, tackle and been asked to drop
back into coverage, as well, over the last four years.
He recorded 200.5 tackles, 39 tackles for loss and
23.5 sacks, which are exceptional career statistics
for a defensive lineman at any level.Watson is not
your typical Division III athlete and has shown the
ability to pressure the quarterback consistently,
while facing double and sometimes triple teams. He is
a smart, high-energy player that should improve with
increased coaching and a regimented training program.
His workout numbers from last year included: 4.80 in
      the 40, 23 reps of 225 lbs., 30" vertical and 4.6 in
the short shuttle. Additionally, he has for the most
part played at 275 pounds, but can comfortably add ten
more pounds to his frame without losing any speed or quickness.
