Here are few tid bits about Patriots DT Chris Jones and the fine (and surprising) season he is having!

There were 48 defensive lineman selected in this year’s NFL draft, and this season’s rookie sack leader was taken 38th among them. Patriots defensive tackle Chris Jones was drafted by HOU in the 6th RD, cut at the final cutdown and immediately claimed by Tampa Bay.  They cut him in September. Since joining the Patriots in Week 3, Jones has recorded 4 1/2 sacks in just five games. Of the 37 DL chosen before him, only the Browns’ Barkevious Mingo has even four sacks halfway through the season. Jones is likely benefiting from a much-improved Patriots pass rush, but seeing him atop the rookie sack standings is at the very least a shock.

Looking back at his combine numbers, he ran a very pedestrian 5.25 40 yard dash.  However he ran an incredible 4.44 on the Short Shuttle (Devin McCourty ran a 4.38).  Normally a .4 drop from the 40 to SS shows real quickness.  Jones .81 difference shows an incredible amount of short area quickness.  If he can add a few more pounds and strength (he did put up 30 reps at 225# at the combine)  we may have something special here.

40 doesn t mean much for a DL. It s definitely the quickness, agility, and short burst that count most. Jones has been really incredible for a rookie. I hope
