Its hard to sit thru the longest draft in history then end up with 1 pick and 2 trades, however, that is not the whole story.

The Pats pick Merriweather at 24, as predicted by this year's winner of Bama's Draft Contest.  Merriweather is very versatile, he can play every position in the secondary.  Just the kind of player the Pats usually covet.  He will start this year and many more to come.  His off the field concerns are nonexistent.  Many people carry and own weapons in Florida.  He pulled and used a weapon in self defense.  That's not a character flaw that's a hero.  The fight on the field is an issue.  It could be chalked up to youthful aggression and stupidity.  There are plenty of guys here to keep that sort of thing in check.  Great player and a great fit.  Grade A

The Pats saw everyone on the board at 28 as a 2cnd round value.  They traded their pick to a desperate team and got a 2007 4th and 31 next year.  Barring a miracle, the 2008 #1 is likely to be a lower pick than 28, possibly a top 10 pick.  Next year the draft story will be about the wiley BB when the returning superbowl champ is picking in the top 10.  They then take a 4th round pick and use that to get Moss.  Let's recap, BB/Pioli turned this pick into what should be a much better round 1 next year and a premium WR.  Grade A

The Pats traded their 2cnd round pick for a proven WR.  Production is better than potential.  Rather than roll the dice on whether a WR will pan out we picked one that already did.  Grade A

The Pats trade their late 3rd round pick for a better 3rd next year and a 7th rounder this year.  They are now loaded up to do what they do best, get 2cnd day gems.  Grade B
The BrewGnat (Winner of 2002 and 2007 Bama's Draft Contest)
