Group Description

Loners - dangerous or desirable?

This list is for loners to discuss "Party of One - The Loners' Manifesto" by Anneli Rufus.

Misunderstood and sometimes feared by society, loners often surrender their true natures rather than bear the labels of stuck-up, selfish, crazy, secretive, and even criminal. In her book, Rufus describes the self-reliance, concentration, and creativity of loners as a vital force in the world. She distinguishes between aloneness and loneliness, and disputes the idea that only shared experiences are valid.

In this group we focus on the concepts in this book, as well as our own struggles and triumphs as loners in everyday life. We share our thoughts and feelings about being a loner in a group-oriented society. We explore loners as valuable members of society. We seek ways to deal with the stigma of being a loner.

This list is supportive and not intended for debate. This is not a "chat" list per se but rather an earnest attempt at exploring what it means to be in a "partyofone". If you enjoy friendly sharing and exploration of these topics with other loners - join us!
