      Ave (Hello), Lisa!

[PaleoFursRPG] is a role-playing game. As Hyzenthlay wrote, it
basically consists of a bunch of people writing a story together. We
each create a character, then post messages describing that character's
thoughts, words and actions as it interacts with the other characters,
the situation, and the world around it.

In [PaleoFurs], the characters are prehistoric mammals of various
kinds. A huge sampling of species is shown in our Photo Gallery. You
decide what kind of animal you want your character to be; then you have
him or her show up in the story and write (more or less) what you would
do if you were that creature in that situation.

It helps to know a little about how that species lived and behaved. If
you can't find anything about your critter, you can often guess its
basic habits and attitudes from its nearest living relatives if it has
      any.

Once you've started your character, it becomes a matter of taking
turns. You write what your critter does, then give time for the other
active players to write their characters' responses, then it's your
turn again. Time between turns just depends on what's going on with
the other players; I've seen anywhere from a couple of hours to several
days on my various RPs. Don't panic. The others will come back to the
story, especially if it's a good one!

Eventually you may find your character in the middle of a
coherent "story arc." This is Good! It reads like an actual novel
with a beginning, a climax and a resolution. Within the overall story,
the individual characters may have their own mini-plots...things they
want to achieve, ways they grow and mature, curiosities, etc. Don't
worry about trying to make this happen; when the game is good, it just
      does.

I can't say much more about roleplay that wouldn't be better said by
example. The most recent complete story-arc is the one beginning
with "In the Long Grass" and runs through "Savanna Burning"...posts 521
thru 628, I think. That is as good a demo as any of what we've been up
      to.

Welcome to [PaleoFurs], and good luck!
