Sydney's Pride History Group has published a booklet Camp Nites - Sydney emerging drag scene in the '60s.

The 24 page booklet is built around stories that emerged from PHG's oral history project about places such as The Jewel Box, Les Girls, The Purple Onion, Chez Ivy, Ivy's Birdcage, Karen's Castle, The Trolley Car Bar and Finocchios.

Lively text by John Witte and Gavin Harris uses quotes from the interviews along with great photos from the collections of people such as Ivy Richter, Kandy Johnson, Ayesha and Karen Chant and archival photos from City of Sydney and Go-Set publication.

Selling at $8 including postage, you can obtain copies direct from PHG at GPO Box 415, Sydney NSW 2001.  Make out cheque or money order to 'Pride History Group' and clearly print your name and postal address.

Camp Nites is seen as the first of an occasional series that will eventualy lead to a book on the history of camp/lesbian/gay and transgender Sydney.  An account of the formation of lesbian and gay social groups is planned for February.

For more information about PHG, see www.pridehistorygroup.org.au, email mail@....  Membership costs $20 pa or $5 concession, plus $1 joining fee.

Congratulations PHG from all of us at ALGA on producing Camp Nites.
